(The Effect of Locus of Control on Alienation and Intention to Leave of Yacht Captains)

Abstract

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect of alienation and locus of control on intention to leave and whether there is an internal and external locus of control in the relationship between alienation and intention to leave in the yacht captains sample. Another aim of the study is to reveal the difference between the internal and external control foci of yacht captains. Design/methodology/approach – For the purposes of the study, 390 yacht captains were applied face-to-face survey method and the data were analyzed with the help of SPSS 22 and AMOS 22 statistical package programs. Findings – As a result of the findings, it was revealed that 24% of the change in the intentions of yacht captains to leave the job was explained by alienation and locus of control together. In addition, external locus of control has been found to have a regulatory effect on the relationship between alienation and intention to leave. Discussion – Determining the alienation and intention of leaving the yacht captains, which is one of the most important values of yacht tourism and which is in the highest position in the commercial yacht crew's hiatus, is very important for today's conditions to maintain their existence and provide competitive advantage. However, considering the positions and responsibilities of yacht captains, the evaluation of control foci, which is a personality trait, provides benefits to yacht companies from an organizational point of view.
