Abstract

Purpose – The aim of this study is to evaluate the organizational commitment perceptions of healthcare professionals and to test the theoretical relationship between organizational commitment and employee performance and job satisfaction. In addition, the moderator role of altruism in this relationship was also investigated. Design/methodology/approach – Data were collected from 227 employees working in four private hospitals serving in the field of health by using convenience sampling method. In the study, the relations between the variables and their effects were revealed by correlation and regression analyzes, and the regulatory effect was also tested with a regression curve. Findings – According to the findings, the increase in the organizational commitment perceptions of health workers increases their performance and job satisfaction. In addition, the altruism of health workers plays a regulatory role in the relationship between their organizational commitment and their performance. Discussion – This study tries to reveal the moderator role of altruism in the relationship between commitment, employee performance and job satisfaction. In the literature, no study was found in which all of the mentioned variables were considered together in terms of health workers and the moderator effect of altruism was investigated. In this context, it is considered that the results of the study are both in terms of literature and practitioners. Because one of the issues that should be taken into consideration in providing the services provided in health institutions to patients in an effective and efficient manner is the factors that affect the attitudes and behaviors of health workers. Perceptions of employees within the organization may directly or indirectly affect the service they provide.
