Abstract

Purpose – Today, businesses have had to give more importance to people in order to keep up with the constantly changing external environment and to survive in tough competitive conditions. Therefore, it has been generally accepted that positive psychological capital, work alienation and retention affect both the productivity and performance of the employee and the sustainability of the company. This study aimed to analyze the moderator role of employees' positive psychological capital in the relationship between work alienation and retention. Design/methodology/approach – This research is a quantitative relational research and the data was created online (Google From) and sent to the participants' e-mails. The data of the research were collected from 277 station supervisors operating in the city of Istanbul and working in the underground subways, and analyzed with the Pearson Correlation and Hierarchical Regression Tests. Result – As a result of the analysis, there is a negative significant relationship between job alienation and employment, while the result that positive psychological capital regulates this effect in the effect of job alienation on employment shows that our hypotheses are supported. Discussion – In this century, when the importance of the workforce for businesses has increased, it is thought that the effect of alienation on employment will fill the gap in the literature due to the absence of any study revealing that positive psychological capital regulates this effect.
