Abstract

Purpose – The main purpose of the study is to examine the general characteristics of workplace spirituality literatüre and the development process of the concept in business literature. Design/methodology/approach – In this study, a systematic literature review was carried out. 206 articles obtained from the Scopus database were subjected to bibliographic analysis. Answers to research questions were sought using performance analysis and scientific field mapping techniques. Findings – It is seen that it is possible to examine the development process of workplace spirituality literature in three periods, and the concept has been developing rapidly in the recent period. According to the findings, the country that contributes the most to the field is India by a significant margin. It has been concluded that workplace spirituality differs conceptually in terms of periods. Discussion – In the literature review, it is seen that workplace spirituality is associated with various employee attitudes. The predominant influence of Indian working life in the development of workplace spirituality literature limits bringing a universal interpretation to the concept. In order to be able to determine the universal qualities of the concept, more research is needed in the cultural context.
