The Role of Distributive Justice in the Effect of Excessive Workload on Job Stress, Burnout and Turnover Intention: A Study on Civil Aviation Sector

Abstract

Purpose – In this research, it is aimed to reveal the effect of excessive workload perception, which is thought to occur in civil aviation sector personnel, on burnout level, intention to quit and work stress, and whether the distributive justice effect plays an intermediary role in this relationship. Design/methodology/approach – This research was conducted with multiple hierarchical regression model, one of the quantitative research methods. The data of the research were obtained from 138 employees in an enterprise operating in the civil aviation sector by using a simple random sampling method using the questionnaire technique. Confirmatory factor, hierarchical regression, correlation, t-test and one-way ANOVA tests were applied to determine the compatibility of the collected scales. Findings – Ten hypotheses were tested in the study. Excessive workload affects work stress, childbirth, IAN positively, and the perception of distributive justice negatively and positively. The perception of distributive justice affects education centers and IAN negatively and negatively. If the perception of distributive justice was on job stress, it was concluded that it did not have a cure. In addition, work stress with excessive workload; that distributive justice is not intended in the relationship between birth and IAN. Another member result of the research is that there are groups that are proportionally allocated to non-union worker union members and their intention to leave is higher. Discussion – Stress caused by the perception of excessive workload, burnout, the intention to leave the job and the perceptions of distributive justice have negative consequences on employees and businesses; It will have a negative effect on the continuity of the enterprises in the sector and the realization of their strategies and goals. In order to reduce the excessive workload and to ensure distribution justice in order to avoid these undesirable situations in its employees and businesses; It is considered that a number of preventive and corrective studies can be carried out such as managerial planning and improvements, identifying problems, increasing the number of personnel, reviewing the distribution of tasks, rewarding, receiving complaints and suggestions from employees.
