A Bibliometric Analysis of Graduate Theses on Export Performance in Türkiye

Purpose – Theses written in universities are of great importance in terms of producing and disseminating scientific knowledge. In this research, it is aimed to present a general framework for postgraduate theses, which are written in Turkey on export performance, by examining them using the content analysis method. Design/methodology/approach – The scope of the research consists of postgraduate theses registered in National Thesis Center of the Council of Higher Education and having export performance in their names. A total of 131 postgraduate theses were found in the search made by the researcher by writing "export performance" between 15 October 2022 and 24 November 2022 in the National Thesis Center of the Council of Higher Education. After 7 of these theses excluded due to access permission restriction, 124 of the postgraduate theses were included in the study. Document analysis method was used in the process of collecting data. Findings – According to the findings the majority of postgraduate theses on export performance were produced in state universities, the most publications were made in 2019, and 75% of the theses were master's theses. It has been observed that 80% of the theses are in Turkish, 85% of them are published in the Social Sciences Institute and the most of the theses were produced in KTO (Konya Chamber Of Commerce ) Karatay University. It was also found that 63.7% of the advisors were male, besides 54% of the thesis advisors were professor. In addition, it was determined that 89% of the theses used quantitative method, 65% of them used primary data, mostly survey method was used in data collection and statistical analysis was used as analysis method. Discussion – Bibliometric analysis method in the different sub areas of international trade have been used for many studies examining postgraduate theses and articles. The originality of this research is that it is the first bibliometric analysis study which directly addresses export performance. It is hoped that conducted research will present a holistic perspective to the researchers and practitioners who will study on export performance and fill the existing gap in the literature.
