Abstract

Purpose – In order to increase the quality of the service provided in the health sector, factors that negatively affect the service must be found and corrected. The negativities experienced by healthcare professionals serving in the healthcare sector directly affect the quality of the service provided. In this context; In this study, it was investigated what can be done in terms of the causes and solutions of the concept of silent resignation, which has many negative features for employees in different sectors around the world, specifically for healthcare workers. Design/methodology/approach- The research was prepared by making use of the literature and taking expert opinions; A survey form containing judgments expressing the reasons for silent resignation and solutions was used. The population of the descriptive research consists of 2116 healthcare personnel working at Sivas Cumhuriyet University Health Services Training and Research Hospital. A face-to-face and online survey was administered to 440 hospital employees who voluntarily agreed to participate in the research, and 420 usable surveys were evaluated. Findings – In the study, a significant difference was detected between the professional groups of the participants and the concept of silent resignation. It has been observed that the rate of not paying attention to opinions affects health technicians more than physicians, nurses and health licensees. A significant difference was detected between the participants' working hours in the profession and the concept of silent resignation. It has been observed that the silent resignation tendency caused by insufficient number of personnel and excessive workload in employees with 0-5 years of experience is higher than in employees with 6-10 years, 11-15 years, 16-20 years, 21 years and above. Discussion – As a result of the research, the factors affecting the silent resignation tendency are; It has been observed that there are violence in healthcare, low wages, not being appreciated, not paying attention to opinions, insufficient number of personnel and excessive workload, limited career and personal development opportunities, a feeling of distrust towards managers, and the idea of not being fair. As for the solutions, primarily; Appreciation comes from increasing wages, providing an environment where employees feel valued at work, increasing the number of staff and reducing the workload.
