Purpose – This study aims to investigate the adoption level of digital transformation applications in foreign trade enterprises within the framework of the Technology Acceptance Model 2 (TAM2), with a particular focus on the determinants influencing employees’ intention to use digital technologies.
Design/methodology/approach – The research was conducted using a relational survey design. Data were collected from 380 employees (167 men and 213 women) working in foreign trade companies in Istanbul using a structured questionnaire. The data were analyzed using Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) via SmartPLS 3.3, which was selected for its suitability in simultaneously assessing both measurement and structural models.
Results – The findings demonstrate that perceived usefulness, perceived ease of use, job compatibility, output quality, and computer self-efficacy have statistically significant and positive effects on the intention to use digital transformation technologies. Moreover, significant differences were identified based on gender, age, profession, and income level, while no significant variations were observed with respect to education and marital status.
Discussion – The results highlight that individual competencies, perceived functionality, and alignment with organizational processes are key drivers of digital transformation adoption. Accordingly, sustainable integration of digital transformation in foreign trade enterprises requires strengthening employees’ digital skills, ensuring process compatibility, and developing strategies tailored to diverse demographic groups.
