Purpose – The aim of the study is to examine and interpret the effects of supply chain applications on business performance in aviation companies operating within the borders of Istanbul, which is considered the center of the civil aviation sector in Turkey.
Design/methodology/approach – In the study where the quantitative research method was applied, the survey was used as the data collection method. Since the effects of supply chain management on business performance will be examined in the study and a definitional result will be reached, it is also included in the descriptive research section within the observational research group. Since the universe size of the study is known numerically, the minimum sample size was taken into account according to the 5% sampling error. Civil aviation sector employees in Turkey as of the end of 2022 were selected as the research universe. As a result, 359 acceptable answers given to the online survey were included in the review and interpretation. The prepared survey consists of three parts. The first part includes questions to determine the demographic characteristics of the participants in the study. The second part includes statements regarding the supply chain performance scale consisting of 17 questions. The third part includes questions regarding the business performance scale consisting of 11 statements. The scales applied to the pre-test group were rearranged in the digital environment as a result of the correct results obtained and applied online to the main study group between 15.03.2025 and 25.03.2025. The relevant survey was applied to white-collar office workers in companies operating in different fields in the civil aviation sector in Turkey. The data obtained as a result of the application was analyzed using SPSS 26.0 and AMOS 24.0 programs.
Results – The study was conducted on civil aviation sector employees in Turkey. As a result of examining the effects of supply chain performance and its management on job performance in the relevant field, the relationship between the related factors was revealed. As a result of the correlation analyses conducted through the research variables, it was understood that there were significant relationships between all variables. In particular, it was seen that the relationship between the task performance sub-dimension and contextual performance had the highest interaction. As a result, it was understood that the task performances of the employees in the civil aviation sector had a strong interaction with the contextual performance dimension. Another finding was that the supply chain sub-dimensions had a significant effect on the job performance sub-dimensions. It was revealed that the flexibility factor, one of the supply chain performance sub-dimensions, had the greatest effect on the task performance sub-dimension, one of the job performance factors. Again, it was understood that the explanatory power of the model was sufficiently strong and the task performance factor had the strongest effect.
Discussion – The findings obtained reveal that there is a strong interaction between the task performance and contextual performance of civil aviation sector employees in Turkey, and a similar result was obtained with other studies in the literature. Based on other results, it is thought that the task performance of employees can be increased at the same rate as a result of increasing the flexibility skills applied in civil aviation organizations in Turkey. It is understood that the results obtained in this section also coincide with the results of similar studies in the literature. It was also revealed that the smallest increase in the task performance of the relevant sector employees has strong effects on organizational context performance.
