Purpose – This study aims to examine the mediating role of intrinsic motivation (IM) in the effect of digital leadership (DL) on the organizational innovation climate (OIC) among human resources working in a technopark located on the European side of Istanbul.
Design/methodology/approach – This study adopted a quantitative research method. Data were collected using 5-point Likert-type questionnaires in a physical ambient. The questionnaires were completed by white-collar employees working at a technopark located on the European side of Istanbul IBM SPSS version 27 and IBM SPSS AMOS version 24.0 were utilized to analyze the data and to test the proposed research model and hypotheses.
Results – This study indicates that digital leadership has a strong direct effect on organizational innovation climate, while also exerting a partial and relatively low-magnitude indirect effect through intrinsic motivation, indicating the presence of partial mediation.
Discussion – This study revealed that no other work comprehensively addresses digital leadership, employee intrinsic motivation, and the organizational innovation climate as a whole. It was noted that more research on these concepts is needed in the literature to enable organizations across different sectors to gain a competitive advantage. It was also noted that human resources lacked sufficient knowledge about what a digital leader is or is not.
