The Effect of Organizational Democracy on Job Satisfaction: A Field Study

Abstract

Organizational democracy can have a positive impact on job satisfaction through changes in the individuals’ opinions on their job, colleagues and workplace conditions. The number of studies examining the effect of organizational democracy perception on job satisfaction is limited. The aim of this study is to examine the effect of organization democracy perceptions of hospital staff members on their job satisfaction levels. The sample of this descriptive study comprises of 405 participants working in a university hospital. Data were collected via Organizational Democracy Scale, Job Satisfaction Scale and a demographic data form. Data were analysed on computer using correlation, regression, independent samples t test and One Way ANOVA. As a result of the analyses, it has been concluded that job satisfaction increases as organizational democracy perception increases and that organizational democracy can be used as a tool in increasing employees’ job satisfaction levels. A positive and significant relationship was found between perceptions towards organizational democracy and job satisfaction (r=.622;p<0.001). Organizational democracy perception affects job satisfaction level positively (Adjusted R2 =.388).
