Abstract

Purpose – Socialization which is the process of learning employees' organization culture and their own roles is important in terms of establishing good relations among employees, ensuring harmony between the employee and the work, job satisfaction, productivity and motivation. The aim of this study is to determine whether there is a meaningful relationship between organizational socialization and job motivation in accordance with the perceptions of the employees in public organizations and the effect on job motivation of organizational socialization. Desing/methodology/approach – In the collection of research data was used survey method. In this context, it was applied “Organizational Socialization Scale” and “Motivation Scale” to 72 employees working in various public in stitutions serving in İhsaniye district of Afyonkarahisar. The data were analyzed by descriptive analysis, correlation analysis and regression analysis. Findings – As a result of the analysis, according to the correlation analysis, it was found a significant and positive relationship between four dimensions of organizational socialization (business education, understanding of the organization, support of colleagues, future expectations) and work motivation. According to regression analysis, organizational socialization has a positive and significant effect on job motivation. The most explaining dimension of work motivation is the dimention of the support of colleagues from organizational socialization dimentions. Discussion – The motivation for all public or private organizations is of great importance. Organizational socialization has a positive effect on employees' motivation. Organizational socialization, which is a process that includes both newly recruited employees and current employees, has an effective role in organizational performance, productivity, quality and success by increasing work motivation. Therefore, in order to raise the level of socialization of the institutions, it is necessary to give importance to educating, supporting, gaining the knowledge and skills required by the job of the employees. In the literature review, there is no study that deals with organizational socialization and work motivation. In this context, it is thought that this study will make a significant contribution to the literature.
