Testing Technical Analysis Methods on “TTKOM and TUPRAS” in Share Investments

Purpose – Today, there are many financial instruments that can be invested in. It is aimed to examine how accurate the technical analysis used in the selection of the instruments to be invested in the stock market gives on 2 of the stocks with the largest trading volume. Design/methodology/approach – The BIST 100 index was chosen as the study population, and TTKOM and TUPRAS stocks with the highest trading volume in this index were determined as the sample. In this study, a case study was used as a research method, and the study data were obtained from Borsa Istanbul's website for the BIST 100 index, TTKOM and TUPRAS stocks.This study includes a financial analysis in scope. In this framework, formation and indicator calculations were made within the scope of technical analysis methods, taking into account the time series, since it is a different application from the qualitative and quantitative research methods used in research methods in social sciences to the price charts between 2010 and 2015. With the results obtained, it is aimed to determine whether the right investment decision can be taken with technical analysis methods. Results – In the light of the information obtained by technical analysis, except for extraordinary conditions, of the 2 large stocks whose data were examined within the scope of the analysis; It can be stated that double bottom, double top, shoulder head shoulder, reverse shoulder head shoulder and crease price gap formations are formed and signal that the current trend will change, and the findings are compatible with some of the literature. Discussion – In this study, it has been tested whether profit can be made by applying technical analysis methods to “TTKOM” and “TUPRAS” stocks in the BIST 30 index. There are findings determined for 2 stocks within the scope of the analysis obtained, and different results are obtained in different investment instruments.
