Abstract

Purpose – The aim of the research is to reveal the effect of workplace spirituality and positive psychological capital of teachers in educational institutions on work engagement. This study aims to provide support for the provision of workplace spirituality and positive psychological capital in schools, to eliminate the problems experienced in work engagement, to explain workplace spirituality and positive psychological capital and work engagement, and thus to obtain findings that can contribute to the education sector. Design/methodology/approach –Data were collected voluntarily by survey method from 763 teachers working in 70 public schools in Balıkesir province and 20 districts. A statistical package program was used to analysis of the research data. The analysis of the data collected from the teachers was made by evaluating exploratory factors, correlation and regression analysis. Findings – The findings obtained from the research show that workplace spirituality and positive psychological capital have a positive and significant effect on the work engagement dimensions of being energetic, being committed to work and being committed to work. Discussion – The findings were compared with other similar studies and it was seen that the research results were consistent with the others. Therefore, it is expected that higher levels of work engagement will be exhibited in institutions with high workplace spirituality and in teachers with high positive psychological characteristics.
