The Bibliometric Profile of Green Finance Studies in Banking

Purpose – Nowadays, green finance is considered one of the important pillars of sustainable development, and the concept of green finance in banking represents a subject area attracting significant attention in the literature. The objective of the present study is to evaluate research on green finance using the bibliometric analysis method. Design/methodology/approach – The study used the Web of Science (WoS) database to obtain data and the program VOSviewer to analyze and visualize the data set. Green finance studies in banking focus mainly on environmental sciences, economics, and business finance. Findings – The People's Republic of China, Türkiye, the UK, Pakistan, and the USA are the countries where the highest number of green finance studies are conducted. The words ‘green finance’ ‘sustainable development, ‘green innovation’, ‘renewable energy’ and ‘climate change’ were determined as the most frequently repeated keywords within the scope of the common formation analysis. The People's Republic of China, the UK, the USA, India, and Saudi Arabia were identified as the countries with the highest number of common connections. The citation analysis based on journals determined studies published in the journals named ‘Environmental Science and Pollution Research,’ ‘Sustainability,’ ‘Resources Policy,’ and ‘Energy Economics’ as the most cited journals. Discussion – In this study, studies on green finance in banking were evaluated by bibliometric analysis method. Thus, it is thought that by determining a general perspective and relationship networks regarding the field, the current status of the literature on green finance in banking is clarified.
