Purpose – This study aimed to examine the relationship between intrinsic motivation and organizational identification among nurses working in a public hospital after the 2023 Kahramanmaraş earthquakes.
Design/methodology/approach – The research was designed as a descriptive and cross-sectional study. The study population consisted of nurses employed at the relevant public hospital, and 210 nurses were included through convenience sampling. Data were collected using a Personal Information Form, the Intrinsic Motivation Scale, and the Organizational Identification Scale. Descriptive statistics, independent samples t-test, one-way ANOVA, Pearson correlation analysis, and simple linear regression analysis were used for data analysis.
Findings – The findings indicated that nurses' intrinsic motivation levels (M = 3.55 ± 0.59) and organizational identification levels (M = 3.47 ± 0.78) were above the moderate level. A positive and low-level significant relationship was found between intrinsic motivation and organizational identification (r = .199, p < .01). Regression analysis showed that organizational identification significantly predicted intrinsic motivation; however, the explained variance was limited (R² = .04).
Discussion – In the post-disaster context, a low but statistically significant relationship was found between organizational identification and intrinsic motivation among nurses. The findings suggest that a sense of organizational identification may be associated with intrinsic motivation; however, causal inferences cannot be made due to the cross-sectional design.
