Abstract

Purpose – The main purpose of the study is to contribute to the understanding of scientific developments and research trends in the field by performing a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of the green entrepreneurship literature, to outline the academic studies in this field and to provide guidance for future research. Design/methodology/approach – Based on bibliometric and network analysis techniques, the Web of Science (WoS) database was scanned using the keywords “green entrepreneurship”, “sustainable entrepreneurship”, “environmental entrepreneurship” and “eco-entrepreneurship”. As a result of the scanning, 832 articles published between 1997-2023 were found. These articles were examined, visualized and interpreted with the VOSviewer program. Findings – It is observed in the literature that the interest in green entrepreneurship has increased over time. Studies on the subject are mostly within the scope of business administration, followed by environmental sciences and management fields. The most publications and collaboration in co-authored studies belong to the People's Republic of China, the most articles are published in the Sustainability journal, the most cited journal is the Journal of Business Venturing, the most cited author is Wagner, the author with the most articles is Fichter, the most commonly used keywords as keywords are; It has been determined that these are sustainable/green/environmental/eco entrepreneurship, sustainability, entrepreneurship, sustainable development, social entrepreneurship, circular economy, SMEs and innovation. Discussion – There are a limited number of bibliometric analysis studies on the subject. It has been determined that there is no bibliometric study covering the WoS database on the subject in the domestic literature. When the findings of the study are examined, it is promising that the importance given to green entrepreneurship has increased over the years, that it has been addressed by supporting interdisciplinary fields and different themes, and that these studies can receive financial support. This study guides researchers on the subject they are researching and provides a detailed and holistic perspective and data regarding the research field. The limitations of the research are that it only includes articles registered in the WoS database and that the analyzes were conducted through the VOSviewer program.
