Abstract

Purpose – In this study, comparing the Turkish banking sector with the international banking sector were compared and the structure of bank loans was examined. Design/methodology/approach – Bu çalışmada, 2010-2018 yılları arasında Türkiye’de faaliyet gösteren bankaların; toplam kredileri, takipteki kredileri ve mevduatları ile bazı makroekonomik değişkenler arasındaki ilişki uluslararası bankacılık sektörünün verileri ışığında, karşılaştırmalı analiz tekniği yöntemine göre incelenmiştir. Bankaların kullandırdıkları toplam krediler analizin odak noktasını oluşturmaktadır. Findings – Global economic instability had a negative impact on Turkey's economic performance. The reflection of this on the banking sector which is the primary actor in Turkish financial system was slower growth on loans and lower values in banking. Despite the economic difficulties, it is concluded that GDP / Bank Assets, Deposits to Loans and Loans to Follow-up are lower than the average of developed countries and at the same level with developing countries. Discussion – The results of the study were obtained by using the data of all banks in the Turkish banking sector. In the future studies, it is assumed that the comparative analysis technique can be applied by classifying the data of deposit banks, participation banks, investment and development banks in the Turkish banking sector in terms of different bank types.
