Abstract

Purpose – The purpose of this study is to reveal the relationships among normative commitment, workaholic behavior, job satisfaction and altruism; and to examine the mediating role of workaholic behavior in the relationship between normative commitment and job satisfaction and in the relationship between normative commitment and altruism. Design/methodology/approach – Research data were obtained with face to face survey method from 307 employees working in a public enterprise. For the reveal the relationships between variables, correlation and regression analyzes were conducted by SPSS 26 instrument. Findings – According to the results of correlation analysis it is revealed that there are positive relationships between all variables. Beside this, by the regression analysis, workaholic behavior has a partial mediating role between normative commitment and job satisfaction; and workaholic behavior has a mediating role between normative commitment and altruism. Discussion – In line with the results obtained from the study, it can be stated that normative commitment has a positive relationship with employees' workaholic behavior, job satisfaction and altruism, in other words, with an increase in normative commitment will increase in other variables. Job satisfaction and altruism are important attitudes and behaviors that organizations want to see in their employees. With this perspective it is believed that, hiring and investing in individuals who have sense of responsibility will have an immersive effect on the achievement of the goals and objectives of the organizations.
