Abstract

Purpose – Today, no matter which industry field they are in, the common goal of all public or private enterprises in general is to intensify their workers’ efforts towards the goals of the enterprise. In a more general sense, for the relevant work to be done, it is to ensure them to be willing, to embrace the work, and to show great amount of effort in order for work to be done. It is quite important to provide motivation in order to get these behivors from the workers which are expected from them. However, it is quite a difficult and complex phenomenon to define and to ground motivational tools and to ensure worker motivation. Because of this complex and multi-directional structure of motivation, motivaitonal tools may not show the same effects for every sector and enterprise. From this point forth, it is endeavored to reveal workers’ perception levels of motivational tools and to comparatively evaluate the factors causing them to differentiate according to the sector. Design/methodology/approach – In the study, quantitative research approach is used as base and survey technique is benefited for data collection. In this respect, when the data is gathered, sample technique is used. Within this scope, a survey is conducted with the workers who are thought to represent the workers of the sub-sectors of service sector which is within the scope of the research. The survey prepared accordingly is conducted with 373 individuals chosen with random sampling method from workers of sectors within the scope of the study in years of 2018 and 2019. Findings – According to the results of the analysis, ıt is observed that perception levels of the specified motivational tools in the study differentiate according to sector factor and line up differently in different sectors. Discussion – In this sense, in order to ensure worker motivation successfully, it is considered as an important obligation to evaluate the workers according to their sector type and provide the motivational tools which are going to motivate them in the right way considering the worker groups separated according to the sector factor.
